This is the second highest paved road in Romania, and, without a doubt, it's the most fammous road you will ever hear a romanian talk about. Seems worthwhile? Now that we've got your attention, let us describe your standard tour:
We start early in the morning at about 7 am by picking you up from your pick-up point. Then we take about a 2 hour drive to Curtea de Arges, our first stop of the day. This is home to Curtea de Arges Monastery, one of the most famous churches in the country, which was built in the early 1500s.
Moving on, we'll arrive at Poenari Fortress, which will only reveal itself to those who will climb the long stairway that leads to it. But he who climbs to the top of the cliff shall be rewarded with a stunning scenery and shall be greeted in Vlad the Impaler's way, this being Vlad Dracul's (also known as Dracula) second residence.
Next, we slowly discover the Transfagarasan's beauty, our first stop being at Vidraru Lake and Dam - a place where nature meets comunist mind.
From here the road takes us higher and further into the mountains all the way to Balea Lake. It's a twisty mountain road that goes through unbelievable scenerry before taking you to the top, where we stop at Balea Lake and Lodge. It's up to you to decide how you'll be spending the hour/hour and a half that is allocated for our grand finale. Besides visiting the lake, you can relax at the lodge or just find some picturesque place to sit or if you want to make the most of your time you can try a quick hike to one of the crests that surrounds the lake.
After you've imprinted the scenery in your minds we wish the mountain well and head back to Bucharest, where you'll be dropped off at your specified location.
